Interview - Emma Elizabeth Steiger and Wait To Tell Mother

Michelle and Seth sat down with writer and director Emma Elizabeth Steiger to discuss her short film Wait to Tell Mother. What proceeded was a conversation about grief, creativity and putting yourself into your art, both literally and figuratively. It's an intimate conversation about a universal experience, and we hope that you find something in it that rings true to your own life.

Check out Emma's work on her website.

This interview is part of a series we are doing to highlight the creative voices behind the films selected for the 30th Stony Brook Film Festival.

Emma Steiger is a multifaceted filmmaker and storyteller known for crafting emotionally resonant, character-driven narratives. Daughter of writer Joel Steiger (MATLOCK, PERRY MASON, DIAGNOSIS: MURDER), Emma’s artistic spirit has inspired a life of creativity. As a Junior Executive at Billy Magnussen’s HappyBad Bungalow, she has honed her ability to develop and produce compelling content. In 2024, she was named 'Best Producer' by the New York International Women’s Film Festival for RUNAWAYS. Her latest project, Wait to Tell Mother—which she wrote, directed, produced, and starred in—premiered at Dances With Films: NY, and recently won the Audience Choice Award at Nitehawk Shorts Festival. It is slated to have a stacked festival run this summer. With her highly anticipated feature debut AND YET in development, Steiger continues to push the boundaries of intimate storytelling, making her a rising voice in independent cinema.
